Story: Luis Molina and Valentin Arregui are cell mates in a South American prison. Luis, a homosexual, is found guilty of immoral behaviour and Valentin is a political prisoner. To escape reality Luis invents romantic movies, while Valentin tries to keep his mind on the situation he's in. During the time they spend together, the two men come to understand and respect one another. In 1992 a musical version by John Kander (music), Fred Ebb (lyrics) and Terrence McNally (writer) premiered in Toronto, Canada.
Verhaal: Luis Molina en Valentin Arregui zijn celgenoten in een Zuid-Amerikaanse gevangenis. Luis is homoseksueel en schuldig bevonden aan onzedelijk gedrag en Valentin is een politiek gevangene. Om de werkelijkheid te ontvluchten fantaseert Luis romantische films, terwijl Valentin zijn gedachten probeert te houden bij de situatie zoals die is.
